Settling in – the importance of a positive start

The children have settled in to their new Reception classes with ease. The staggered start, over 2 weeks, meant that the staff were able to get to know each child individually and ensured everyone settled well.

The children explored all the areas of provision in the classroom; learning how to play with the resources, learning the names of new friends and how to tidy up.

Everyone loved the playdough and tried out different colours. The children also made hats to wear (to celebrate their first day at school), and they learnt how to use the glue and Sellotape.

Reception pupils enjoyed singing the ‘hello’ song when other new starters joined, and they and learnt all the routines and rules to keep themselves safe and happy at school.
