Maths – celebrating patterns with a party
In Reception we love to create a feeling of excitement to support our ethos of developing ‘a lifelong love of learning.’ We did this in Maths with a ‘Pattern Party’. We all came to school dressed up in as many patterns as we could, so we could sort ourselves into sets, discuss all the patterns and celebrate a week of learning.
We have looked at patterns in nature, repeating patterns and learnt to design our own. We had lots of fun, making repeating pattern obstacle courses outside going up, down, up down. Pattern dances, actions, music and sounds and used different resources to create visual patterns.
This fluency and understanding of pattern will help us with more complex numerical patterns later in school.
