Harvest Donations 2024 – caring for others in our community
At this time of year especially, we come together as a school, to show gratitude for the food we have and reflect on the needs of others. At Talbot, the Harvest assembly is used as an opportunity to support the community through donating food items to a local charity, PAFRAS (Positive Action For Refugees and Asylum Seekers).
As always, a substantial amount of tinned and dry food was donated by the school community and this year we filled two cars to the brim! Karen Pearse, the director of PAFRAS, and Darav, a Syrian refugee who now works for PAFRAS, came to the Harvest assembly to receive the collection. They talked to the children about how their donations to PAFRAS would support refugees and asylum seekers across Leeds, and thanked the children for their continuing support and generosity. Darav shared his story of how he left Syria with his family to flee from the war and how he and his family relied on PAFRAS for support. This helped the children understand the impact these acts of kindness can make to others.
“We continue to run our weekly drop-in at St Aidan’s Church, where we give out around 80 food parcels each week. We support families with children from all over the world who are seeking safety and sanctuary in the UK. The food you so kindly donated to us will be given out to clients in food parcels next week!” Karen Pearse, Director of PAFRAS.
Thank you so much for your continuing generosity and support.
