International Language Day – celebrating the languages around us
On Friday 26th September, the whole school celebrated ‘Day of Languages’.
Each class had a different focus country/language to represent the rich and diverse backgrounds of pupils from our school. In Year 4, we represented ‘Pakistan’ and ‘India’.
On the day, pupils were invited to dress in either colours that reflected the flags of these countries, or their own cultural dress. During the day, we spent time exploring the languages that we speak at home, including urdu, Punjabi, BSL and French.
Many of the children felt confident to teach each other small phrases in their chosen language. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn new languages and to learn more about each other!
