Physical Education – developing gymnastic skills

Physical Education – developing gymnastic skills is part of the PE curriculum, Year 3 learn gymnastics. In the unit they learn more about different gymnastic shapes, new balances, new jumps and new rolling techniques, building on the work they did in KS1. The children cover these skills over a number of weeks allowing them to refine them and remember them for the future.

A number of these gymnastic skills were then applied, when the using apparatus - such as balance beams, agility tables and the wall bars. This gave children the opportunity to take part in more ‘risky’ activities in a controlled manner. They also had to learn how to use, move and set up equipment safely, which is an important responsibility and general life skill.

Each year, children will continue to develop their gymnastic skills at Talbot, as this is a core strand of our PE curriculum and will be revisited annually.
