Herd Farm Activity Day – Outdoor and Adventurous activities
Year 3 had a fantastic time at Herd Farm Activity Centre.
Upon arrival, all the children were split into 5 different groups. Each group worked through a programme of activities including Bushcraft, Archery, the Obstacle Course, Zip Line and Nightline.
All the adventurous activities were led by Herd Farm staff so it was important for the children to listen closely to the instructions, so that they would know what was expected. An important part of the days was to work with their classmates, support each other and try things that they may never have experienced before.
Bushcraft involved working together as a team to build a shelter from the branches and other natural resources they found on the woodland floor. The children got quite creative by adding footpaths and decorations to their shelters. In Archery, the children tested their hand-eye coordination and tried to hit the bullseye (or even just the target!). The Nightline involved teamwork in order to navigate a route through the woods blindfolded. This was nerve-wracking but fun and they impressed us all with their communication skills. The obstacle course started with a giant see saw and the children had to balance it by working as a team. This involved lots of teamwork, coordination and leadership. Finally,
On the Zipwire, the children really pushed themselves out of their comfort zones and showed their courage, as they went soaring down the hill at great speed from a height. This was the favourite for many of the children and they enjoyed a great sense of achievement after completing this.
Both Herd Farm staff and Talbot staff were so impressed Year 3’s determination and teamwork during their visit and proud of their efforts. The visit served as a fantastic introduction to Outdoor and Adventurous activities in preparation for visits to Yeadon Tarn in Year 4, and the Low Mill Residential in Year 5.
