On 24th May, Talbot held our 5th Health, Sport and Well-being Fair and we were blessed with the most fantastic weather.
This free, community event ties in with important values that school is promoting on an on-going basis. If you have a pupil at school, please check out the School Council Page on DB Primary. In the files section, there are 70 photos of this event for you to enjoy.
Health – this year we tried to include additional ideas around health education, such as making healthy lunch boxes, learning about the importance of sleep, promoting our 20mph zone, signing families up to Change for Life and offering free water and fruit. A huge thank you to our local Sainsbury’s who supplied all the fruit for free.
Sport – we believe every child should be encouraged to find a sport or a number of sports that they enjoy and participate in. We are equally happy for children to find one sport that they love and choose to specialise in, or for children to simply enjoy getting stuck into lots of different sports. At Talbot, we aim to give the children as many sporting opportunities as possible, through PE lessons, lunchtime clubs, after school clubs, taster sessions and competitions. Our approach is to expose children to as many opportunities as possible, encourage them to learn to love sport and to sign-post them onto clubs and teams in the local area. This includes traditional sports, but also less familiar ones like martial arts, golf, orienteering, scooting and (for the first time) Quiddich!
Well being – health and sport are key ingredients for supporting one’s sense of well-being. However, we are slowly introducing pupils to ideas around Mindfulness, taking time to reflect and clear strategies for seeking support if they are feeling anxious. It was wonderful to include specific mindfulness classes at our fair this year.
A huge thank you to all the organisations and staff who supported this event, and for all the families who attended – we hope to repeat this event in 2019. Special thanks must also go to the team who organised the event Miss Gilbert (Sports Coach), Miss Ward (PE Coordinator) and Miss Marsden (PSHE Coordinator).
